The Canadian government, provincial
governments of Atlantic Canada and sealing industry collude to drive
harp, hooded and grey seals to the brink of extinction and beyond.
For the past three years the Nova Scotia government has allowed
the commercial killing of thousands of baby grey seals in a provincial
nature reserve (Hay Island, Cape Breton). Canada's Department of
Fisheries and Oceans has been working with sealers to facilitate
a large-scale slaughter in the tens of thousands of grey seals on
iconic Sable Island in Nova Scotia.
Seal hunting is a marginal activity employing a very small number
of people and is extremely unpopular to Canadians. Yet each year
the Canadian government lavishes millions of our tax dollars on
these cruel, unsustainable and unnecessary slaughters.
WITHOUT OUR TAX DOLLARS
THE SLAUGHTERS COULD NOT CONTINUE.
Join us for a rally in Halifax on Saturday, 13 March 2010 to mark
the Global Day of Action Against Seal Hunting and send a clear message
to the governments of Canada and Atlantic Provinces:
- ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
- NO MORE SEAL SLAUGHTERS!
- NO MORE USING OUR TAX DOLLARS FOR THIS OBSCENE ACTIVITY!
- LISTEN TO THE WISHES OF CANADIANS OR PREPARE TO LOSE THE NEXT ELECTION!
- SEALS ARE WORTH MORE ALIVE THAN DEAD - DON'T SACRIFICE THE CANADIAN TOURISM INDUSTRY FOR A CRUEL AND UNPROFITABLE INDUSTRY
Signs and placards will be provided - just dress warmly and bring
your lovely selves. Look forward to seeing you there!
