ATLANTIC CANADIAN ANTI-SEALING COALITION SUBMITS REPORT TO EFSA
FOR SEAL HUNT STUDY

October 15, 2007 - the European Commission recently tasked the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) with preparing a scientific opinion on the methods for killing and skinning seals currently used within Europe and elsewhere in the world. The EFSA solicited submissions from international organizations.

The Atlantic Canadian Anti-Sealing Coalition was invited to submit a Report based on the research and findings of Bridget Curran, a founding member and spokesperson of the Coalition, who had personally witnessed the Canadian commercial seal hunt in the northern Gulf of St. Lawrence in April 2007.

Bridget submitted her Report to the EFSA in July 2007 and the Coalition is pleased to be able to publish a copy of that Report for public review.

The EFSA expects its Final Report and a draft Opinion to be complete and ready for the AHAW Panel meeting in December 2007.
